Verso il 2000 – Luce Das Projekt »Luce/Licht«, eine der Installationen aus dem Werkzyklus »verso il 2000/Dem Jahr 2000 entgegen«, beabsichtigt eine Lichtinstallation an der Felswand des stillgelegten Steinbruchs in Hohenems und soll als Symbol der Zuversicht für das neue Jahrtausend stehen. Der Entwurf sieht neunzehn Lichtelemente vor, vertikal im Fels verankert und möglichst der Struktur der Steinwand angepasst. Die einzelnen Elemente sind von unterschiedlicher Höhe, zehn bis zwanzig Meter, und zweieinhalb Meter breit. Die natürliche Steinbruchkulisse ist mit ihrer leicht konvexen Form ein einmaliger Schauplatz für die Lichtinstallation. Diese Form der Natur würde durch das Einwirken einer künstlerischen Intervention verändert: das Aufeinandertreffen von Licht und Fels ergäbe einen dynamischen Wechsel von Licht-weich – Felsen-hart und Nacht-dunkel – Felsen-strahlend. Das Kunstwerk lehnt sich an die Stärke der Natur an. Das Licht, Symbol für Transparenz und Weitsicht, wird zum Richtstrahl in das dritte Millennium. Es soll zur Reflexion über das Heute und zum Nachdenken über unsere Möglichkeiten für das Morgen einladen; ein animierendes Sinnbild für Konstruktivität und positive Projektion in die Zukunft. Durch ein zu diesem Projekt parallel laufendes Programm, das aktuelle Themen zu Politik, Kirche, Geschichte, Wirtschaft und Literatur behandelt, sollten möglichst viele Menschen erreicht werden, die gemeinsam mit kompetenten Vortragenden über unsere Vorstellungen von der Zukunft diskutieren. Das Eintreffen des neuen Jahrtausends beschäftigt mich schon seit Jahren. Viele Arbeiten sind zu diesem Thema entstanden: Nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer eine Ausstellung 1990 im Wirtschaftspark Rankweil, 1999 eine große Installation im Collini-Areal in Hohenems und eine Ausstellung im Künstlerhaus Bregenz. Verso il 2000 – Luce The project »Luce/Light« one of the installations from the cycle of works »verso il 2000/towards the year 2000« will include the projection of a light installation onto the cliff walls of a disused stone quarry in Hohenems, and stands as a symbol for hope and confidence in the new millennium.The design envisages nineteen light elements, anchored vertically in the cliff face and following as closely as possible the stone wall structure. The individual elements have various heights, ten to twenty metres, and are two metres broad. The natural stone quarry backdrop, with its slightly convex form, provides a unique setting for the light installation. This natural form was »altered« through artistic intervention: The meeting of light and cliff results in a dynamic interaction between light-soft – cliff-hard – night-dark – cliff-radiant. The artwork correlates closely with the power of nature. Light, the symbol of transparency and foresight, becomes a beam directed towards the third millennium. It invites us to reflect about today and to think about the opportunities tomorrow will offer. It is to be an encouraging symbol of constructiveness and positive projection into the future. With a programme which runs parallel to this project, current themes in politics, the church, history, the economy and literature will also be dealt with. The attempt will be made to reach as many people as possible, who can then discuss with capable speakers our ideas about the future. The arrival of the new millennium has occupied my thoughts for many years now. Many works of mine deal with this theme: After the fall of the Berlin Wall there was an exhibition in the Business Park in Rankweil in 1990, a large installation at the Collini Company site in Hohenems in 1999, and an exhibition at the Künstlerhaus in Bregenz.
